Upcoming Projects!

Parents!

We have started our unit on Media Literacy. Students will learn about movies, advertisements, plays, documentaries, and news media. I know this will be a fun, engaging unit your student will be excited about!

Here are some upcoming projects your student should be working on:
The first project for Media Literacy is creating an iMovie Commercial.
Earlier this week, students worked in groups to create an advertisement for a "fake" product using different advertising techniques. Beginning today they will begin PRODUCTION to advertise their product in a commercial.
Students need to make sure and bring their iPads, fully charged, everyday to school.

We also have an ongoing group book project that will be due in a few months. Details for this are on Google Classroom.
Things you should know as a parent for this project:

  • Students should have a fiction book that they are currently reading. I would encourage them to read at home. Discuss the book with them.
  • Any poster-boards that could be donated would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you for all your support!

Finals Next Week!!

It's been great being back and seeing all the kids!

We do have a busy schedule ahead. We will have FINALS next week, Wednesday-Friday. Friday is an early release day because that is the end of the semester. Time is going fast!
Our ELAR final will mostly be a reflection on their work through the semester so they can see how they've grown as a writer and a reader.
After that, STAAR tutoring will start soon. Look for the upcoming STAAR testing dates.
If you ever have any questions or comments, please let me know!

The End of the 9 Weeks!

We made it to the end of the nine weeks! You should be expecting their report cards soon.
These last few week students have been writing a personal narrative story. They went through the writing process, beginning with brainstorming and outlining to revising and editing and finally typing their final draft. They are uploading their final draft to their Eportfolio, so if you get a chance you should read their story. This is all due on Friday, November 3rd.
🕮To help with reading comprehension, ask your child about what independent book they are reading.  Ask them to tell you about what they have read so far, what is their favorite part, and how do they think the book will end.
Since it's required in ELAR, they should always have a book with them. Our next book project will be due in December. The rubrics will always be posted in Google Classroom.
✔Remind students that tutoring is offered everyday after school in the Lion's Den and Tuesday-Friday morning in select teacher's classroom. If they have below a 75 in any class, they are required to attend in the morning.
