The End of the 9 Weeks!

We made it to the end of the nine weeks! You should be expecting their report cards soon.
These last few week students have been writing a personal narrative story. They went through the writing process, beginning with brainstorming and outlining to revising and editing and finally typing their final draft. They are uploading their final draft to their Eportfolio, so if you get a chance you should read their story. This is all due on Friday, November 3rd.
🕮To help with reading comprehension, ask your child about what independent book they are reading.  Ask them to tell you about what they have read so far, what is their favorite part, and how do they think the book will end.
Since it's required in ELAR, they should always have a book with them. Our next book project will be due in December. The rubrics will always be posted in Google Classroom.
✔Remind students that tutoring is offered everyday after school in the Lion's Den and Tuesday-Friday morning in select teacher's classroom. If they have below a 75 in any class, they are required to attend in the morning.

Griffin University

This week, students are participating in Griffin University. Each class they attend throughout the day covers a lesson that will prepare them for attending Griffin Middle School. In these lessons, they learn the procedures and expectations of our school. They also learn about being compassionate, digital citizenship, and treating everyone with respect.
Starting next Tuesday, ELAR class officially starts! We will begin S.S.R. (this is silent reading of the student's choice). They will be required to have an independent book with them everyday. We will also begin using their IPads. So, please make sure you have signed the Acceptable Use Policy and paid for the insurance. Students will need to bring their IPad to school everyday charged.
I've had a great time this week getting to know everybody, I can tell this is going to be a fun group of kids and I look forward to a great year! Please, email me if you have any questions.

Welcome Back!!

I'm so excited for the 2017/18 school year!

Quick info on me-I have three kids, twin boys-18 yrs. old, and a daughter-16 years old. She attends Hebron High School. One of my boys is going to University of Arkansas and will be a member of the Razorback Marching Band. My other son is going to a smaller college in Morrilton, Arkansas and pursing leadership in his church.
I graduated from University of Central Arkansas with my Bachelor of Science in Education, Certified in Middle Level 4-8. I taught 6th grade Literacy in Conway, Arkansas for three years.(Before, I was a Conway Fire Fighter:)-yep me!
Then, my husband's job moved us to Texas. We moved last September to Lewisville. I love Texas! (Although, I will always be a Razorback fan! Pig Sooie!) Soon after we moved, I took the Texas exams and received my Texas Teaching License.
Last year, I was a long-term substitute teacher at Griffin. I taught 8th grade English Language Arts and I fell in love with this school!
Now, I have a full-time position as a 7th grade English Language Arts teacher and I can't wait to get started!
I'm hoping to use this blog as a way for parents to follow our journey throughout the year and to also have as a resource if needed. If your student needs extra help or maybe was just absent, I will add information and links to help at home. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
